Gay CPA Offers Same-Sex Couples in New York Financial Planning Advice

After the passage of a New York State law allowing same-sex couples to marry, a New York City wealth management firm has named a new CPA partner to provide same-sex couples with financial planning advice.

Fogel Neale Partners said last Friday that Michael Markiewicz, a CPA and Certified Financial Planner, has been named a partner in the wealth management firm. The firm noted that Markiewicz is gay and will be able to help same-sex couples with structuring their finances under the new law. Among the financial arrangements that need to be made are the distinction between state and federal benefits, transfer of property, joint tax returns, estate planning, and budgeting for wedding costs.

"Emotionally, this is a great leap forward, but in reality, there are still many federal benefits that aren't available to same-sex couples,” said Markiewicz in a statement. “It's extremely important that they work with a professional to ensure that they're properly taking advantage of all of the benefits provided by New York State."

Markiewicz has over 30 years of experience as an advisor, CPA, and CFP. He has worked at Deloitte & Touche and CBIZ MHM Family Office Services. He recently joined Fogel Neale as a partner and serves as head of financial planning and tax services for the firm’s advisory group, Fogel Neale Wealth Management.
