Grant Thornton LLP acquired TayganPoint Consulting Group, a life sciences consulting firm based in the Philadelphia area, expanding GT’s business consulting practice Wednesday.

TayganPoint was founded in 2009 and helps global companies, particularly in the life sciences and health care industries, with complicated transformation management projects.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Grant Thornton, based in Chicago, ranked 6th on Accounting Today’s 2018 list of the Top 100 Firms. The firm announced Monday that it achieved $1.8 billion in annual revenue for fiscal year 2018 (see Grant Thornton posts $1.8B in revenue for FY 2018).

Grant Thornton has more than 8,000 people in the U.S., including more than 600 partners and principals, as of Dec. 31, 2017. TayganPoint has approximately 70 employees and five senior executives who are joining GT with the acquisition. TayganPoint co-founders Joy Taylor and John Cassimatis will join the leadership team of Grant Thornton’s business consulting practice as, respectively, the go-to-market leader and life sciences industry leader, while Andrew Hunter, Joan Walker and Amy Flynn will join GT as managing directors.

“In getting to know the Grant Thornton team, we’ve been struck by the cultural and intellectual alignment between our organizations,” Taylor said in a statement Wednesday. “The future is all about collaboration across our organizations to bring innovative solutions to clients.”

The acquisition adds greater scale to GT’s business consulting practice and adds to the firm’s advisory services presence on the East Coast. The investment bank Fairmount Partners advised TayganPoint on the transaction.

“TayganPoint is a premier consulting firm in its space and shares our commitment to serving clients through quality, fresh thinking and collaboration – an approach we call ‘Status Go,’” said Srikant Sastry, national managing principal of advisory services at Grant Thornton, in a statement. “Together, Grant Thornton and TayganPoint will offer focused industry expertise, paired with Grant Thornton’s range of accounting and consulting offerings.”
