IIA Plans Financial Services Audit Center

The Institute of Internal Auditors plans to launch a Financial Services Audit Center this summer to help internal auditors at financial firms.

Cassian Jae, a former executive at John Hancock Financial Services, will be director of the center, the IIA told attendees at its General Audit Management conference in Las Vegas on Wednesday.

“With more than 10 years of legal and compliance experience with issues related to financial services regulatory audits, Cass will serve the new center and our financial services members well,” said IIA president and CEO Richard F. Chambers in a statement.

The new center will focus on advancing the professional practice of internal auditing in the financial services sector via thought leadership, education, professional guidance and advocacy. It will provide education focusing on the financial services industry through online learning, conferences and seminars—many of which will count toward continuing professional education requirements—and networking events.

The Financial Services Audit Center will expand on the services currently provided by the IIA’s Financial Services Auditor Group, but is expected to offer a wider array of content. It will be modeled after the American Center for Government Auditing, which the IIA launched last year for public sector internal auditors and currently serves more than 11,000 members in the U.S.

“Our plans to develop specialty centers got off to a great start with the American Center for Government Auditing, and it is only natural that we should have a strong and vibrant center focused on financial services auditors, who represent one of the largest segments of our membership,” said IIA North American board member Mike Cowell, who is senior managing director and chief auditor for TIAA-CREF.
