Illinois Firms Merge

Accounting firm Silver, Lerner, Schwartz & Fertel announced a merger with Phyllis Malitz & Associates, increasing the size of SLSF to 35.

As part of the merger, Phyllis Malitz has been named an SLSF partner. She and her employees have moved into the SLSF offices in Skokie, Ill., from her previous offices in nearby Wilmette, Ill., in the Chicago suburbs. Malitz's firm had a total of eight full-time and part-time employees. Michael L. Perlman will continue to serve as SLSF's managing partner.

SLSF dates back to 1982, while Malitz's firm is 20 years old. SLSF provides accounting, tax planning, wealth management, strategic planning and other services. Malitz's firm handles business problem-solving, tax planning and preparation, investment review, risk management, estate and wealth transfer planning, and financial statement preparation.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed, nor were revenue figures for either firm.

Both firms recognized their synergies and how much clients would benefit from the two of them merging together, according to a spokesperson. Malitz brought additional depth of talent to the firm, as well as a network of professional contacts and clients.
