Implantable Contact Lens Company Switches BDO for McGladrey

Monrovia, Calif. (June 10, 2003) -- A California-based developer of surgical contact lenses and other ophthalmic products announced Monday that it has decided to hire McGladrey & Pullen as its auditors -- ending a nearly 10-year relationship with BDO Seidman.

The company said the decision had no relation to any disagreements on accounting principles, auditing scope or procedure, or financial statement disclosures.

"The audit committee conducted an extensive review of our current and anticipated future audit needs and selected McGladrey & Pullen as our independent auditor," said STAAR president David Bailey," in a statement announcing the switch. "We appreciate the contributions made by BDO Seidman throughout their engagement with the company."

Starr develops, manufactures and markets minimally invasive opthalmic products including an implantable contact lens and products designed to help patients with cataracts and glaucoma.
