INTUIT TAPS HALVORSEN AS CTOTax and financial software provider Intuit remained "in-house" in filling the role of chief technology officer: Per-Kristian Halvorsen, who previously worked as the company's chief innovation officer, and who has served as acting CTO since September, has been elevated to the post on a permanent basis.

Halvorsen listed increasing revenues, broadening Intuit's customer base and satisfaction, easier product use, and a higher return on product development investments as his strategic directives.

With a background that includes more than 25 years as a scientist and professor, Halvorsen spent several years leading research at Xerox PARC and HP Labs.

SAGE GETS NEW RESEARCH VP

Sage Software has named former Oracle executive Alok Tyagi as its new vice president of research and development for the company's MAS, BusinessWorks and PFW product lines.

Tyagi will be responsible for product engineering and research and development for each of the three product lines. He will report to the senior vice president and general manager for mid-market accounting solutions, Himanshu Palsule.

Tyagi said that getting to know the organization's employees, stakeholders and business partners is one of his first priorities in the new position. He also said that he plans to ensure that the company delivers on its commitments to release the new versions of products such as Sage MAS 90 and Sage MAS 500.

Tyagi has more than 17 years of product development experience, and was most recently employed as senior development director at Oracle, where he managed mid-enterprise CRM and ERP products.

TIMEPLUS PAYROLL ACQUIRES SOUTH CAROLINA COMPETITOR

Payroll, tax and benefit services provider TimePlus Payroll announced its recent acquisition of West Columbia, S.C.-based American Business Payroll. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Senior vice president of sales Marty Hamby said that expansion of the company's footprint in South Carolina is an important step in TimePlus' growth strategy for the Southeast. The company has also recently expanded in Florida, Virginia and California.

American Business Payroll has provided customized payroll services for small and midsized companies since 1987. TimePlus will offer customers a full complement of payroll and timekeeping solutions, including an upgrade from their existing DOS-based system to TimePlus' Internet-based service.

TimePlus has over 210 offices throughout the United States and Canada, providing local, personalized payroll services and technologies to over 30,000 businesses.
