QUICKBOOKS OPENS TO IPHONE AND BLACKBERRYIntuit has added mobile access to its QuickBooks Online service via the Apple iPhone and RIM BlackBerry. The Web-based version of the company's small-business accounting software now has more than 130,000 small businesses as subscribers, and allows smartphone users to check their current bank and credit card balances; track accounts receivable and accounts payable; find vendor, employee and customer contact information; and run balance-sheet and profit-and-loss reports.

ACCUFUND UPGRADES SUITE

AccuFund has enhanced its AccuFund Accounting Suite with point-of-sale and electronic funds transfer features. In Version 3.07 of the nonprofit accounting software, AccuFund's cash receipts module now has a point-of-sale screen that displays unit prices and quantities that are tied to current inventory. The module also includes the ability to use automatic EFT features to directly withdraw the amount due from a customer's checking account for recurring bills such as utilities and property taxes.

PETZ ADDS TEXT MESSAGING

Petz Enterprises has introduced TextLink, a text-messaging service for its CrossLink 1040 Professional Tax Software. The service will allow tax preparers to send text messages to their clients' cell phones, helping them contact a group of clients simultaneously. VERTEX UPGRADES TAX APP WITH GLOBAL FEATURES

Vertex has updated its O Series tax software, expanding the product's global tax management and compliance features.

The vendor said that the features will help companies better manage the complex mix of value-added tax and sales tax rules associated with doing business worldwide. The software now provides the ability to calculate VAT at the state level in Brazil, India and other locales. Version 5.0 of Vertex O Series will help users deal with suspended tax scenarios, which typically occur under a customs duty suspension regime, such as bonded warehouses or free trade zones.

The software also adds enhancements to better support compliance with European Union rules, and the ability to automatically confirm the validity of VAT registration numbers.
