KPMG LLP has named Bruce Pfau vice chair of human resources. Pfau will be responsible for all human resources activities, with a major focus on retention, recruitment and workplace initiatives. As vice chair and chief human resources officer for KPMG, he will also become a member of the firm's management committee.
Pfau, 51, succeeds Kathy Hopinkah Hannan, who was named the firm's Midwest area managing partner for tax services, based in Chicago, earlier this year.
Hannan, the first women to ever be named as an area managing partner at KPMG LLP, oversees a staff of 400 tax partners and employees across Illinois, Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, Wisconsin, North and South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Minnesota, and Iowa.
"In his new role, Bruce Pfau will lead KPMG's human resources initiative, aligning it with the firm's three strategic priorities of quality, people and growth," said Eugene O'Kelly, chairman and chief executive officer.
Pfau most recently served as national practice director for organization effectiveness at Watson Wyatt Worldwide, where he advised the executive teams of global corporations and also directed the firm's groundbreaking Human Capital Index research.
He was previously managing director with the Hay Group, where he led the team that conducted Fortune magazine's World's Most Admired Companies Survey. He also served as vice president of human resources effectiveness for Dun & Bradstreet Corp.
