Mass. Society awards $145.5K in scholarships

The Massachusetts Society of CPAs announced Monday that it will award $145,500 in scholarships to 32 local students as part of its Educational Foundation Scholarship Program. Students will be presented with their awards during a virtual ceremony and reception on June 9, 2021.

Scholarships are fully funded through donations to the MSCPA’s Educational Foundation. Recipients must either be an undergraduate or graduate accounting student attending a college or university in Massachusetts, or a student attending a college or university out of state with a permanent residence in Massachusetts, who have shown academic excellence, financial need and the intent to pursue a career in accounting.

“The society is honored to support these remarkable students who are the next generation of CPAs” said MSCPA president and CEO Amy Pitter, in a statement. “Becoming a CPA opens up endless opportunities in a variety of fields, and we couldn’t be prouder to guide them along their journey while advancing the future of the profession.”

The foundation has now awarded over 300 scholarships, ranging from $2,500 to $10,000 each, totaling more than $1,500,000, since the scholarship program's inception in 2006. Funds are used primarily to aid with the cost of tuition, books, interviewing expenses and other needs on the road to CPA licensure,
