Mayer Hoffman McCann Continues Ohio Expansion

Akron, Ohio (June 17, 2004) -- CPA firm consolidator Mayer Hoffman McCann, with offices in 16 states, now has another in Ohio with the acquisition of Akron-based Spector & Saulino.

Mayer Hoffman McCann started its national expansion effort in 2002. The firm already had an office in Cleveland through CBiz, which has owned Mayer Hoffman McCann’s tax and consulting business -- now known as CBiz MHM Business Services Inc. -- since 1998.

The addition of Spector & Saulino brings “depth to the Northern Ohio area,” according to Jeff Walters, a shareholder and former Spector & Saulino managing partner.

“In our market here, we were a regional firm and did business in Cleveland, Akron and Canton. They are a growing firm that had become national and now we have the resources to provide services to more clients in the area,” Walters said. “At times there had been larger, closely held companies and public clients that we had not been able to service because they needed a national firm. Now, our focus stays the same, but we can also provide SEC-oriented services.”

Walters also said that the firm had been in talks with “others in the financial community” about its own growth opportunities. When Mayer Hoffman McCann approached Specter & Saulino, “It made sense because they continue to grow and expand in different ways. We can grow with them,” he said.

Specter & Saulino was founded in 1986 and specializes in audit and attest services for several industries, including manufacturing, medical services, construction, nonprofits and real estate development.

Mayer Hoffman McCann specializes in attest services for mid-market businesses, nonprofit organizations and government.
