Mercadien Group Merges with Local Firm

Princeton, N.J. (July 12, 2004) -- The Mercadien Group, a $10 million CPA and business consulting firm based here, has merged with The Mount Ritter Group PC, a two-partner firm in Robbinsville, N.J.

Terms were not disclosed. The deal became effective July 1.

Mount Ritter partners Marguerite Mount and Sherise Ritter have joined Mercadien as managing directors, boosting the firm’s partnership total to 13. The Mount Ritter staff also has relocated to Mercadien’s Princeton headquarters.

Mercadien partner Myron Gelman said Mount Ritter Group was the first merger for his firm in roughly 10 years.

"One of the very difficult challenges [with M&A] is finding firms that have similar cultures and philosophies," Gelman told WebCPA. “We’ve always been in the market looking, but frankly, a lot of what we saw just didn’t make any sense for us. We found a great fit with Mount Ritter."

Gelman added that one of the value-adds Mount Ritter brings to the marriage is a flourishing international tax practice with a specialty in tax treaties, an area Mercadien had been looking to expand into.
