Florida

Georgia

Pershing Yoakley & Associates, an accounting and management consulting firm based in Knoxville, Tenn., announced Eddie Phillips has joined the firm as a principal in the tax department and will work in the firm’s Atlanta office. Prior to joining PY&A, Phillips was vice president of Compliance & Strategic Services for Healthcare Management Advisors in Atlanta.

Indiana

Robert Lazard, a partner at Crowe, Chizek and Co. LLP, Indianapolis, has been elected to the 2003 executive committee of the National Association of State Boards of Education. He will serve as NASBE’s vice president, effective Jan. 1, 2003. Lazard is the managing executive of Crowe Chizek’s public sector services group, which focuses on auditing and consulting for tax-exempt organizations, including those in education. His involvement on the NASBE board began in 1999, when he was elected to serve as the board’s new member representative. He served as NASBE Central area director in 2000 and 2001 and was NASBE’s treasurer in 2001. Lazard was appointed by Indiana Gov. Frank O’Bannon to serve on the Indiana State Board of Education in 1998 and reappointed in 2002 for another four-year term.

Illinois

H. Edward Morris, Jr. recently joined Corbett, Duncan & Hubly PC, Itasca, as the manager of the firm’s valuation and litigation support department. Morris brings more than 20 years of experience as a CPA, Accredited Business Valuator and former small business owner to CDH Financial Group’s Business Valuation Practice Area. Morris has worked with clients in a variety of industries including manufacturing, wholesale distribution, retail and construction services. He will be actively involved in all aspects of CDH’s valuation and litigation projects. Morris was formerly the valuation/litigation services manager for The Condon Group Ltd. Ben Middendorf, a member of the tax department of Diel & Forguson Financial Group, O’Fallon, recently passed the national CPA exam, which is given twice a year by the AICPA. Massachusetts

Impact Skills Set Inc., Boston, announced that Tracy Cecchett and Ruth Bennett have joined their team of professionals as consultants. Cecchett specializes in developing comprehensive project plans and detailing process infrastructure. Minnesota

Gordon Viere, chief executive officer at LarsonAllen announced the promotion of three employees to principal at LarsonAllen offices in Minneapolis and St. Cloud. Those receiving promotions include, Diane Espaldon, Minneapolis; Rob Hennen and Kris Tveit, St. Cloud. Espaldon will serve as principal and has been named director of consulting for the LarsonAllen Public Service Group. Hennen will serve as principal with the tax and financial planning group in St. Cloud. He will continue to provide tax and accounting advisory services to small and midsized closely held businesses with special emphasis on the individual tax and financial planning needs of business owners and company executives. Ohio

Mellott & Mellott PLL, Cincinnati, announced the following. Will N. Woodward and Hong Wang have joined the firm as staff accountants. Woodward just completed his junior year of college at Miami University in Oxford. He looks forward to his senior year when he will assume the presidency of Beta Alpha Psi Accounting Fraternity. South Carolina

Blackbaud, Charleston, announced that Sandra R. Hernandez, MD has joined the company’s board of directors. Dr. Hernandez is the CEO of the San Francisco Foundation, the second largest community foundation in grantmaking in the United States with $84 million in grants made to Bay-Area nonprofits this year. Prior to becoming the CEO of the San Francisco Foundation, Dr. Hernandez served as the director of public health for the City and County of San Francisco. She is an assistant clinical professor at UCSF School of Medicine and maintains an active clinical practice at San Francisco General Hospital in the AIDS clinic.

Texas

Weinstein Spira & Co., Houston, expanded its audit team with the addition of Brian M. Franklin, who joins as a shareholder. Franklin joined the firm as a shareholder in 2002. Previously, he spent 12 years with a top tier public accounting firm, where he had extensive involvement in auditing and other attest and assurance services for publicly traded and privately owned businesses in a wide variety of industries, including manufacturing, construction, oilfield service, real estate, transportation and distribution.

Virginia

At their annual meeting, The Virginia Group of Local CPA Firms Inc. elected Roger L. Handy as president.
