RETIREMENT, MEDICAL BILLS TOP FINANCIAL WORRIES

New York - Retirement and uninsured medical expenses are the most pressing financial concerns for Americans, according to a survey conducted for the American Institute of CPAs by Harris Interactive. While retirement captured the top spot on a list of 15 financial concerns, cited by 12 percent of respondents, uninsured medical expenses followed closely with 11 percent, up from 6 percent in 2008.

 

AMERICANS FEEL MORE FINANCIALLY SECURE

Bloomington, Ill. - Americans now feel more optimistic about nearly all aspects of their financial security, according to the Country Financial Security Index, which increased 1.8 points in April to 64.9, after a record-setting decline in February. The April index reveals that 38 percent of those surveyed currently rate their overall financial security as good or excellent, against 35 percent in February.

Confidence in long-term financial goals showed the most improvement. Those who said they are confident they will have the financial resources to send their children to college jumped five points to 61 percent, and those who indicated they are confident they will have a comfortable retirement increased four points to 57 percent. FEDS REVAMP MYMONEY.GOV

Washington, D.C. - The federal government's Financial Literacy and Education Commission has redesigned its financial literacy education Web site, MyMoney.gov. The new site has enhanced interactive features and utilities to provide more resources, and creates an online point of access to financial information from 21 federal agencies. Users will be able to find information about how to plan for various life events, as well as information targeted to their personal or professional situation. The site also provides money management tools, including a financial savings calculator, worksheets for establishing a household budget, and a college preparation checklist. The site is also available in Spanish.
