The Association of International Certified Professional Accountants and the Management Accounting Section of the American Accounting Association have announced that John Evans III, alumni professor of accounting and business administration at the University of Pittsburgh, is the recipient of the 2019 AAA Lifetime Contribution Award. Evans was awarded earlier this month at the 2019 AAA Management Accounting Section Midyear Meeting in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

The annual award recognizes professionals who have made special contributions to management accounting education, research and practice. It is sponsored by the Association of International Certified Professional Accountants and awarded on behalf of its Chartered Global Management Accountant designation.

Evans was honored for his over 40 years of research and teaching of key management accounting topics, in addition to his other contributions to the profession.

“Professor Evans truly represents the very best of the management accounting profession," stated Monte Swain, chair of the selection committee for the award and Deloitte professor of management accounting at Brigham Young University. "His instruction over the years has prepared thousands of accounting professionals and his research is guiding management practice and providing thought leadership for CPAs and CGMA designation holders across the world.”

Evans has been previously recognized for his academic research, receiving the Outstanding Management Accounting Paper Award from the AAA in 2012 and the Best Paper Award from the Journal of Management Accounting in 2012. He was also honored in 2011 with the University of Pittsburgh’s Provost Award for Excellence in Mentoring and has been named Teacher of the Year on multiple occasions.

Evans previously served as president of the Management Accounting Sector for the AAA and as a senior editor of its Accounting Review publication.
