Rhode Island Society of CPAs names 2019 scholarship recipients
The Rhode Island Society of CPAs announced the recipients of its 2019 scholarships at its annual Meeting and Recognition Reception, held on April 23, 2019, in Providence.
The Carl W. Christiansen Scholarship Fund gifts $1,000 scholarships to Rhode Island residents studying full-time for accounting or related degrees. The scholarship was awarded to Villanova University senior Amanda Andsager; Bryant University senior Cameron Moniz; Bryant University sophomore Angelica Provost; and University of Rhode Island senior Alexandra Roberti.
Moniz and Provost also received additional scholarships — the Cheryl A. Ruggiero Award (Provost) and the KLR/Brian A. Altomari Memorial Scholarship (Moniz). The Ruggiero Award is awarded to female Rhode Island residents pursuing full-time study in public accounting, while the KLR/Brian A. Altomari Memorial Scholarship, awarded via the RI Foundation, is given to students attending or planning to enroll in an accredited college or university in Rhode Island to major in accounting.
All scholarship recipients must be legal residents of the state of Rhode Island, demonstrate an interest in accounting during their undergraduate or graduate years, must obtain an overall academic average of 3.0, and demonstrate the potential to become a member of the public accounting profession.
“We salute the academic achievements of our scholarship winners and extend our sincere wishes for continued success as they pursue their professional goals,” stated RISCPA president Melissa Travis. “Our April Recognition event marks a special occasion for the entire RI Society of CPAs as we welcome this new generation into the profession. This talented group of young professionals represents the next chapter at RISCPA and will position the organization for growth.”
