Smart & Associates Bolsters Chicago, Philly Units

Philadelphia (Dec. 5, 2003) -- Smart & Associates, a multi-regional CPA firm here, has strengthened its assurance and tax units in its Philadelphia and Chicago offices via a series of promotions.

The firm appointed Patrick Brennan as senior manager of its Chicago accounting and assurance practice, and Rosario “Rocky” Vento as senior manager of its tax practice.

Prior to coming aboard at Smart & Associates, Brennan was owner and president of Brennan & Co. Ltd., a provider of assurance and consulting services for both publicly held and middle-market businesses.

Vento previously served as president of Rove Financial & Managerial Consultants, Ltd., a consulting firm where he was lead consultant to fast-food giant McDonald’s Corp. In that role, he addressed research and compliance issues for the quick-serve company.

Meanwhile, Louis McCall has joined the firm as director of accounting and assurance services in its Philadelphia office.

Before joining Smart and Associates, he served as senior manager at Asher & Company Ltd., where he assisted in the practice development and servicing of SEC, financial services and insurance clients. He was also a senior audit manager at Ernst & Young.

Also, John B. Stine II joined the firm as a partner in the tax services practice. He comes aboard Smart from serving as partner-in-charge of the mid-Atlantic area entrepreneurial services tax practice for Ernst & Young.

With offices in Atlanta, Baltimore, Chicago, New York and Philadelphia, Smart & Associates ranked No. 61 on Accounting Today’s 2003 Top 100 Firms, with annual revenues of $25.1 million.
