Society News: Texas Picks Chairman; N.Y. Announces Show

Abilene, Texas, CPA Jerry Love will serve as chairman of the 27,000-member Texas Society of CPAs for the coming year.

Love was officially elected at the organization's annual meeting on July 1 and will serve a one-year term as the society's volunteer leader. As the TSCPA's top volunteer, he will chair the organization's board of directors, which sets policy, manages programs and oversees activities designed to serve Texas CPAs.

During his tenure, Love will focus on expanding the TSCPA's financial literacy efforts, including the society's Money Management U workplace financial literacy program, as well as increasing the number of CPA and student members.

Joining Love as TSCPA officers are Jim Smith, chairman-elect, from Dallas; Linda Johnson, treasurer, from College Station; and Anthony B. Ross Sr., secretary, from Austin.

Love is president/chief executive and a shareholder of Davis, Kinard & Co. PC. In addition to his CPA credential, he is also a personal financial specialist, a certified financial planner and a certified valuation analyst. Love is a frequent speaker and trainer for nonprofit organizations of all sizes in the areas of board training, board responsibilities, strategic planning and fundraising.

Separately, t he New York State Society of CPAs and its professional education arm will host the 27th Annual New York CPA Business & Technology Show in New York on July 17 and 18. The show will feature over 100 exhibitors and there will be an opportunity for accounting professionals to participate in a dozen continuing education sessions.

Programs will tackle recruitment strategies, MAP challenges and opportunities, and summer tax essentials, among other topics. Former Crazy Eddie chief financial officer Sam Antar will also make a presentation on preventing white-collar fraud. More information is available at www.nycpashow.com.
