Additions to Checkpoint, including GAAP Reporter

The Tax & Accounting business of Thomson Reuters

http://yourcheckpoint.thomsonreuters.com

Thomson Reuters has made a number of enhancements to its Checkpoint research platform, adding new resources and making it easier to sift through the significant amount of information it makes available. To start, it has added GAAP Reporter, which offers a wealth of insight and guidance for complying with and applying U.S. GAAP. Content includes common practices and pitfalls, illustrations of required disclosures, SEC comment letters, differences between GAAP and International Financial Reporting Standards, and more, all organized to mirror the structure of the FASB Codification. Checkpoint also now includes Thomson Reuters News & Insight, which combines news and journalism with guidance and analysis from the company's PPC, RIA and WG&L brands. Finally, the platform's navigation has been enhanced to make it easier for users to organize, flag, annotate and follow up on the information they need.

E-liars

Registered Email, eSignOff and SecuRmail

RPost

www.rpost.com

Wake up: When people tell you they didn't get your e-mails, they're lying. They just didn't want to read them. While that can be emotionally painful if the people in question are your friends and family, it can be legally and financially devastating if they're clients. RPost offers a set of tools to let you send secure, encrypted e-mails, and get back proof that they were received - legally admissible proof that you can take to court when you sue your unresponsive friends and family for emotional distress. RPost also has electronic signature tools that make it easier to process contracts, change orders and other agreements by e-mail - all with proof that they were sent and received.

E-tape

Digital Vault Exchange

Cintas Corp.

www.cintas.com/dvx

No one has seen actual red tape since the end of WW II, 8-track tapes died in the 1970s, and while there may be a cassette tape under the passenger seat of your maiden aunt's 1992 Jetta, we doubt it's been listened to since 1997. And now tape is being challenged in one its last redoubts: data backup, which is moving to disks and online. Rather than carry backup tapes home with you, you can use services like Cintas' new Digital Vault Exchange, an easy-to-use online backup solution with high levels of encryption. Backups are easy to schedule and automated, so you don't have to remember them, and you can access all versions of saved files over the Web, so there's no shuffling through boxes of tapes. Soon tape will be reduced to children's art projects and wrapping presents, and we hear rumors that Apple plans to move both of those online soon.

Transend Migrator, now in Version 10, makes e-mail migrations both easy and safe, whether you're upgrading to another system, or merging in another firm. Transend also has a Forensic Edition designed explicitly for e-discovery and compliance.

Back in the real world

CyberLock

Videx

www.videx.com

With all the talk these days of encrypted e-mails, identity theft and data security, it's easy to forget that things in the real world need to be protected too, with old-fashioned things like barbed wire, snarling dogs, and locks. Videx's CyberLock line of electronic locks and smart padlocks update the old cylinder lock and are easy to install. Their electronic keys can be programmed with specific access permissions, and also record all openings and unauthorized attempts, as do the electronic locks themselves. They'll help make sure that while you're busy trying to protect all your digital stuff, someone doesn't make off with all your real stuff.
