A new company aims to match up accounting contractors with potential employers.

The Chicago-based company, VouchedIn, was founded by a CPA, Dan Gaffney, who felt discouraged by a past experience with a staffing firm that wanted him to work on a project. Even though he had known the corporate team on the project for many years, he was asked to work for 85 percent of what he considered his minimum rate,

Gaffney decided that there had to be a better way to directly connect companies with qualified and reliable accounting professionals.  He wanted them to be able to connect directly and work out the contract agreements amongst themselves, saving the companies money and allowing contract accounting professionals to earn their full value.

“Relationships are crucial, but the important relationship is between the contractor and employer, not the staffing firm and employer," Gaffney said in a statement. "Temporary work should be an enjoyable career."

According to the American Staffing Association index, since the beginning of 2012, temporary and contract employment has grown 27.1 percent, and those numbers are expected to hit an all-time high in 2013.

He launched VouchedIn this month with the goal to connect qualified accounting professionals of every level with companies in need of their services. The Web-based service is available at www.VouchedIn.com

The company philosophy is to help create employment opportunities and more work for contract accounting professionals by offering an online resource for matchmaking.

VouchedIn is free to join for employers and contractors. Employers pay 15 percent of the contracted rate to VouchedIn. The service includes verification of both employers and contractors. Contractors can access professional liability insurance, if it is required by the employer. The service also provides online time tracking and invoicing for contractors. Contractors are paid through VouchedIn and are notified by email when an employer posts a project or when some action is required, such as scheduling an interview or when a project is offered.
