AlternaDev is a resource for transactional sales and use taxes. It's Web-based AlternaTax software program can be used to prepare tax returns -- either keeping the tax work as a completely in-house function, or taking advantage of outsourcing with AlternaDev's Tax Compliance Services.  AlternaTax can also be used for electronic filing such as the Illinois RT-2.

In addition to product info and customer support, this site contains plenty of current tax news that you can use.

Clergy Tax Net
Clergy Tax Net is an online accounting and finance organization dedicated to serving the clergy and churches of all 50 states. This Minnesota-based site offers a large selection of tax services and tax and legal products available to churches and clergy on the Internet. Users can access the site's tax services department that answers any questions concerning taxes and tax law that might interest you. The site also has a tax organizer, online store, links, referral program, home financing area, personal credit report and research information, as well as a salary guide.

ClubTax
This site focuses on the tax issues specific to clubs, and is hosted by Florida CPA Mitchell. On this site, the author offers articles of current interest to the club industry.

Fax-Tax Systems
Fax-Tax Systems is an electronic filing service bureau developed to assist tax practitioners who are not yet ready to make the investment in e-filing hardware and software themselves. Practitioners can fax Fax-Tax the forms and get filing confirmation within 48 hours, the company says. They also offer Refund Anticipation Loans.

Federation of Tax Administrators

A good place to start for state and local tax information. Helpful tax documents, surveys, tax rates and much more.

FileTax
This site offers individual tax prep (particularly for late or delinquent filers), but they also have tax and business tips, and a tax game that leads to downloadable tax forms and some state tax authorities.

FindLaw
This legal site lets you search for cases and codes, and also has lots of articles and other resources on legal topics. They've got a special section for accounting and taxes, and one for forms.

Gainskeeper.com
Are any of your tax clients frequent stock traders? If so, you may want to turn them on to this site, which helps investors track securities holdings and their tax implications. It will also help tax preparers with Schedule D when tax time comes around. The site keeps daily track of portfolios, including stock splits and other corporate actions.

Practitioners Publishing Co. (PPC)

The "Tax Watch" and "This Week's News" sections of this Thomson Corp.-owned Web site are worth the trip. There's also product and service info from this research and accounting solutions provider.

Social Security - Employer Reporting Instructions
This primer by the Social Security Administration for employers on how to file W-2 wage and tax statements will be second nature to most tax professionals, but it's easy-to-read click-through format should make it a handy back-up tool. The site even has a poster archive where visitors can purchase historic tax propaganda posters.

You can search through the most recent version of our mammoth tax code on this page, which is maintained by Cornell University.

Tax Management Inc.
This site, part of BNA, offers tax news and analysis, as well as support and free trials for tax management products.

TaxPenalty.com
This web site takes advantage of the revised tax laws, which now allow businesses to challenge the way the Internal Revenue Service calculates deposit penalties. The site, developed by Time Value Software, offers alternative calculation models for businesses to use, which could significantly lower the amount they owe the government. Calculations and comprehensive reports are free unless the site saves the taxpayer more than $250.

The Tax Prophet
With humor and more than a touch of whimsy, The Tax is a breath of fresh air among tax resources. The site is the creation of Robert L. Sommers, attorney-at-law, who also pens a tax column for the San Francisco Examiner and has stuffed his site with interactive applications, FAQs, publications, and even a special section for "foreign taxpayers."

Transactional Record Clearing House IRS Web Site
This site, affiliated with Syracuse University, is the brainchild of a former New York Times investigative reporter who decided to gather Internal Revenue Service enforcement information and create a database to crunch the numbers and look for any unusual patterns. The result: reams of information about the IRS that they'll never publicize, such as the odds of an audit in your area, and disparate enforcement across the country in both criminal and civil proceedings.

Uncle Fed's Tax Board
There's so much here it's tough to single anything out - suffice it to say Uncle Fed has amassed a huge quantity of great tax resources, including tax forms from all over, loads of IRS info, court rules, audit strategies, a job board, a tax pro locator, and much, much more. Great stuff.

Yahoo Taxes
Web portal Yahoo does a good job of aggregating news about taxes and the IRS on this useful site. You can also link instantly to IRS forms, opinions and editorials about the subject, and links to other related web sites.
