Thompson Named NSA's Accountant of the Year

IMGCAP(1)]Paul V. Thompson, EA, ABA, ATA, ARA, of Alexandia, Va., was named Accountant of the Year by the National Society of Accountants at its 66th annual meeting, held here.

The award is given in recognition of outstanding achievement and service to the NSA, the accounting and tax profession, taxpayers and tax preparers. Thompson is a frequent speaker on tax and accounting issues, and is currently chair of the NSA's Federal Taxation Committee. He frequently testifies before the IRS as a representative of the NSA and the tax preparation community.

The society gave out a number of other awards to individuals and affiliated state organizations:

[IMGCAP(2)]-- Curtis Banks Lee, ATA, ATP, of Raleigh, N.C., received the Distinguished Service Award.

-- Christine Freeland, CPA, ABA, ARA, CFP, of Chandler, Ariz., received the Norma Kraus State Director Award.

-- The Oregon Association of Independent Accountants received the Affiliated State Organization of the Year Award.

-- The Free State Accountant and The Kansas Public Accountant each received Keith Billings Memorial Awards for outstanding ASO publication.

-- Gloria Juhl Raney and John E. Iacono, CPA, each received National Editorial Awards, for Best Original Article and Best Series of Articles, respectively.

-- William Delaney, EA, ATA, of Westwood, Mass., received the Tax Talker of the Year Award for his many contributions to the NSA "Tax Talker" bulletin board.

-- The ASOs in Mississippi, South Dakota, Florida and California all received Charles W. McAllister Awards for net increase in NSA membership.

-- The Arkansas Society of Accountants and the Washington Association of Accountants each received Best ASO Web Site Awards in their size categories.

The NSA represents 30,000 members in accounting, auditing, tax, financial and estate planning, and management services.
