Reznick Groups Birmingham, Ala., office has formed a separate accounting firm managed by the offices former managing principal.
All 25 employees of the former Reznick office, including four partners, have joined the new firm, known as Tidwell Group, which will be run by managing partner Barry Tidwell. They include 23 licensed CPAs and accountants. Reznick acquired Tidwells old firm, Tidwell DeWitt, only two years ago (see
Tidwell said he chose to spin off the firm because Reznick has been focusing increasingly on major markets such as Los Angeles and Chicago. His group will concentrate on Birmingham and the state of Alabama as a whole. The practice will target entrepreneurial and middle-market businesses, especially in the construction, distribution and real estate industries.
"We believe that Birmingham is growing as a middle-market business area, which is the Tidwell Group niche," Tidwell said in a statement. "We felt this was an appropriate time to position ourselves to serve the expansion of these type businesses in the community and throughout the state, and additionally we will continue to serve real estate and construction groups due to our established and proven experience."
