Virginia CPAs Offer 2010 Financial Literacy Calendar

The Virginia Society of CPAs has produced a free Financial Fitness Calendar for next year.

The newly redesigned 12-month wall calendar is a free consumer resource as part of the VSCPA’s financial literacy initiative to improve the financial health of Virginians. Called Financial Fitness (www.FinancialFitness.org), the campaign is part of a national effort of the CPA profession to reach out to the community and educate the public — from schoolchildren to retirees — on topics related to money management and fiscal responsibility.

"In light of the current economic crisis, it's important for consumers to be reminded of basic money management principles,” said VSCPA chair James K. Walker. "The CPA profession has a long tradition of helping individuals and businesses realize their financial goals. The VSCPA and its members take this responsibility very seriously, and we’re here to help.”

In addition to serving as a wall calendar, the VSCPA Financial Fitness Calendar is also a financial literacy resource guide. It contains year-round money management advice on topics such as budget planning, saving for the future, preventing identity theft and understanding credit as well as important tax and financial dates to remember and information for additional financial assistance. To access more financial resources, consumers can visit www.FinancialFitness.org/calendar.

The calendar also features four Virginia CPAs with diverse careers, along with a money management tip from each expert: Susan Black of Roanoke, director of finance and human resources at the Roanoke Valley SPCA; Holly Caldwell Ratwani of Bridgewater, associate professor of business administration at Bridgewater College; Cheryl Fields of Newport News, senior operating tax analyst at Dollar Tree; and James K. Walker of Richmond, president and CEO at The Walker Consulting Group.

Consumers can access the free 2010 Financial Fitness Calendar online and request a complimentary copy at www.FinancialFitness.org
