Weiser Hires Sandwich Board-Toating MIT Grad

Accounting firm Weiser LLP has hired an unemployed investment banker and Massachusetts Institute of Technology graduate who gained fame last summer for wearing a sandwich board on New York's Park Avenue that advertised, "Experienced MIT Grad for Hire."

The firm announced that it has hired Joshua Persky, who has more than 25 years of experience. Before joining Weiser, he worked as an investment banking consultant at Houlihan, Lokey, Howard & Zukin.

Persky will join Weiser's business valuations and corporate finance group.

His new boss emphasized that the new hire came about after a rigorous interview process, and not because of the publicity Persky received from his self-advertising. "Josh was hired based on his own merits, not because he was marching up and down on Park Avenue over the summer," said Elliot M. Ogulnick, director of business valuation and corporate finance at Weiser.

He noted that Persky was referred to the firm by an executive recruiter. Persky then went through a series of interviews over the course of the month and was asked to submit a writing sample on a topic that Ogulnick chose.  "He is very analytical and he is a strong financial writer," said Ogulnick. "Josh has been a great addition to the team and we're looking forward to many great things here."
