Wisconsin Firms Merge

Madison, Wis. (Oct. 17, 2003) -- Wipfli Ullrich Bertelson, one of the nation's top accounting firms, has merged with an 85-person firm in the state.

William Young has agreed to merge with Wipfli, forming the second largest firm in Wisconsin after Virchow Krause, according to the Wisconsin State Journal.

The combined firms will have about $80 million in revenue and 600 employees. Wipfli managing partner Greg Barger will head operations of the newly merged firms.

The firms said they'd been in discussions for about 18 months before going ahead with the deal.

"When we considered our options for extending our presence into this market, we looked hard for an existing firm with strong capabilities and a bright future to work with," said Greg Barber, Wipfli's managing partner, in a statement. <

The move is expected to be completed by the end of the week and take effect Nov. 1

Wipfli ranked No. 28 on Accounting Today's 2003 Top 100 Firms list, with $55.69 million in annual revenue.
