Justworks Launches Online Payroll & Benefits Platform

New York-based Justworks has officially launched its online payroll and benefits platform, Justworks.com designed for new businesses to manage payroll and offer large-company benefits while ensuring legal compliance.

The company also announced that it has raised $1 million in seed funding, led by Index Ventures and with participation from Daring Journey Ventures and notable angel investors. The company plans to use the funds for further product development, sales efforts and geographic expansion to offer access to small businesses across the United States.

Justworks.com offers a full range of human resources services as well as self-service payroll, with the ability for employees to fill out forms such as the I-9; direct deposit setup; payment processing for contractors, salaried employees and hourly workers; and the ability to offer full medical, dental and vision coverag;

Justworks plans to offer 401(k) retirement savings and other benefits soon. Currently, the company can file over 5,000 different types of taxes at the federal, state and local levels and is licensed in 25 states, including New York, Texas, California and Massachusetts. The company plans to be nationwide in 2014.

“We believe that a comprehensive solution for the basic business needs relating to hiring should be simple and affordable,” says Justworks CEO Isaac Oates. “When I started my first business, I found it incredibly challenging to onboard new employees and it was difficult to know how to do it the right way. Iris Ramos and I started Justworks to make the process of hiring simple, so that new businesses can hire and scale faster.”
