Microsoft Releases Flow and PowerApps

Beginning Nov. 1, Microsoft is making its Microsoft Flow and Microsoft PowerApps business tools generally available.

The two products were introduced in April and made available for public preview. Flow is a SaaS offering for automating workflows and business processes across apps, and PowerApps is a business app builder that connects to the cloud services and data sources a customer is already using. The two solutions integrate with each other, and work together with Microsoft Office 365 and Dynamic 365.

Flow and PowerApps, together with business analytics tool Microsoft Power BI, are designed to enable non-developers perform tasks that would normally require programming skills.

PowerApps now also includes the common data service, which stores business data in a Microsoft Azure-hosted database. PowerApps, Flow and Power BI are all natively aware of this common data model.

Flow and PowerApps connect to applications and data residing at a user’s facilities through the on-premise data gateway so the created apps can integrate data stored on premise.
