Six accounting students from the Eli Broad College of Business at Michigan State University brought home top honors from the 14th annual Deloitte National Student Case Study Seminar.
Faculty advisors and managers from Deloitte & Touche LLP worked with student teams to provide solutions to complex case studies involving real-world financial accounting issues.
Each student team presented its case solution to a panel of active and retired Deloitte partners, who assumed the roles of a client companys senior management or audit committee members. The panel selected the student teams that best identified relevant accounting issues and most effectively present their case.
The Deloitte Foundation, the not-for-profit arm of Deloitte LLP, presented each MSU team member with a $2,000 scholarship to use toward completing their accounting degree, and the school received a $10,000 award to support its accounting program.
Participation in the Deloitte seminar provided us with the opportunity to work with professionals who invested a great deal of time in advising us, said Andrea Silva, a senior accounting major from Lansing and captain of the winning team. The process of researching and presenting a case study with the help of professors and practitioners truly enables students to understand the more complex issues within auditing and to hone the skills that are necessary to succeed in public accounting.
