Start Here, Go Somewhere Else

Why accounting? If you’re a student deciding if the profession is the right career for you, the American Institute of CPAs would like to influence you a bit with their new and improved Web site, Start Here, Go Places.

The site, which as been around since 2001, has been revamped to offer new interactive career paths, job-shadowing opportunities and scholarship searches.

One particularly cool feature is “FutureMe,” a potential career path that students can customize based on responses to a series of questions pertaining to their personality and preference. Asking questions like, “this reliable crystal ball says someday you’ll come across a job you’re not crazy about – but will double your salary. What do you do?”  The simulated career path gives insight to the visitor as to what life is like in a particular position, salary and weekly hours, as well as a timeline of how one might achieve this position.

The Web site also serves educators through education plans, print profile testimonials from practicing CPAs and links to accounting resources and articles.
