Washington State University Vancouver receives $25,000 gift from Opsahl Dawson

Opsahl Dawson, based in Vancouver, Wash., has announced a $25,000 donation to Washington State University Vancouver last week. The firm's gift will be divided between accounting fellowships and sponsorship of WSU Vancouver’s annual Notable Alumni Award for the next five years.

New PwC paper urges more data analytics in students' curriculum

USF alumnus and supporter Lynn Pippenger donates $10M to School of Accountancy

The University of South Florida (USF) announced today that its School of Accountancy will be named for Lynn Pippenger, an MBA alumnus and long-time supporter, following a $10 million donation. The change was made official this morning by a vote from the USF Board of Trustees.

AICPA and CIMA launch new education site for CGMAs

The AICPA and CIMA announced the launch of a new professional learning and development website today for the more than 140,000 CGMAs around the world. The AICPA | CIMA Competency and Learning website will equip them with the competencies required to maintain and improve their skills in today’s business environment.

Lee University offering free tax advice for local residents

Lee University, located in Cleveland, Tenn., will be offering pro bono tax advice to local residents this week, according to local affiliate WDEF. Accounting students from the Lee's Business Department will partner with the IRS's Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program and offer on-site help, as well as a tax return help hotline and face-to-face appointments.

New AICPA site highlights the value CPAs provide to small business owners

The AICPA announced the launch of a new site today, cpapowered.org, which emphasizes the value CPAs can provide to the nation’s 28 million small businesses on strategic planning, compliance reporting and financial management. It is an expansion of the AICPA’s "#CPAPOWERED campaign," created last year to highlight CPAs’ expertise.

NASBA accepting 2015 Call for Proposals for Accounting Education Research Grants Program

Established in 2011, the program was launched by NASBA’s Education Committee and aims to advance research on educational issues impacting CPAs, the public accounting profession, and Boards of Accountancy’s charge to protect the public.

Bellevue College to offer bachelor's degree in applied accounting

Following eight months of submissions and research considering the desires of both students and employers, Bellevue College (WA) will offer a new four-year degree opportunity starting as early as this fall (with a second possible program premiering the subsequent Fall), according to the Bellevue Reporter.
