Georgia Southern University to hold seminar on fraud and forensic accounting Aug. 3 - 7

The School of Accountancy at Georgia Southern University announced today that they will host a one-week seminar from Aug. 3-7 entitled, Essentials of Fraud and Forensic Accounting. The seminar is open to potential graduate students interested in pursuing a Master of Accounting with a concentration in Forensic Accounting, along with accountants, attorneys, and law enforcement professionals seeking continuing professional education (CPE) credit.

Deloitte gender diversity survey reveals both advancements and obstacles

Of the more than 1,700 professionals interviewed, sixty-five percent believe their organization is improving in the representation of senior women within their company, citing both flexible working programs and gender diversity targets as examples.

Survey finds majority of SMBs using outdated expense management tools

On Wednesday, expense management solutions and services provider Concur released the findings of its ‘SMB Financial Decision Makers’ survey, which found that small and medium businesses’ expense management solutions relied heavily on manual methods that contradicted employee needs and policies, while also compromising overall profitability.

N.C. firm DMJ & Co. raises more than $13,000 at 15th annual Polar Plunge

North Carolina accounting firm DMJ & Co., PLLC (DMJ) recently participated in the 15th annual Polar Plunge for Special Olympics North Carolina on Saturday, February 28. Organized by the Guilford County Sheriff's Department, the event was held at Wet N' Wild Emerald Pointe and raised more than $18,000 for the Special Olympics.

AICPA webcast on the business of legalized marijuana urges caution for interested CPAs

Last Thursday, the AICPA held their webcast on recent marijuana developments in the United States, Understanding the Impact of Legalized Marijuana on the CPA Profession. The general consensus from the panel of experts indicated that CPA's interested in pursuing business opportunities in the emerging marketplace should show caution and best judgment during this emerging period of business.

Thomson Reuters CS Professional Suite first to offer electronic filing for S Corporations in Indiana

Thomson Reuters CS Professional Suite announced on Monday that it is the first to certify an application for electronic filing with the Indiana Department of Revenue, effective immediately. 90,000 Indiana S corporations will now be able to electronically file their 2014 annual business tax filings (IT-20S).

Manhattan high school receives $1M donation from 31-year-old alumnus

Manhattan-based Hunter College announced on Monday that Hunter College High School has received a $1 million donation from health care investor and entrepreneur Martin Shkreli - the largest single donation in the high school’s 101-year history.

Salesmanship matters

I’m going to tell you the rest of the story and how it relates to our firms next month. In the meantime, think about who you are sending out on your sales calls and how they are representing your firm. Also, think about how you treat prospective clients during your busiest times of the year as prospective clients expect the same great treatment whether it is June 1st, March 13th, or December 30th.

Indiana Wesleyan University announces new MBA program for CFP'S

Indiana Wesleyan University (IWU) announced the launch of a new degree program on Wednesday, in a partnership with the Ron Blue Institute. The Master of Business Administration in Personal Financial Planning (MBA-PFP) allows Certified Financial Planners to earn an MBA by completing just seven or eight additional courses.
