Enter the future: Are you a Google Glass CPA?

February 10, 2014

Google Glass is a wearable computer with an optical head-mounted display (OHMD) being developed by Project Glass, a research and development project fromóyou guessed itóGoogle. Its mission? To produce a mass market, ubiquitous computer. Google Glass displays information in a smartphone-like hands-free format that can communicate with the Internet via voice commands. This new technology is not available to the public yet.

Currently, several cutting edge vendors are looking for CPAs to do some market research on how one might use these glasses within a CPA firm. Accounting via voice commands to your glasses?† Recording the sale of depreciable assets via a few voice commands? Perhaps a little practice management out of the corner of your eye?†

Are you up for the challenge?††

I have to admit, I didnít know what to expect when I signed up my firm to be a test marketer. But with a free lunch and exposure to some new age non-traditional technologies in the middle of tax season, how could anyone say NO?

Members of my firm came prepared with open minds and lots of questions as we began the experience. We saw up close and personal how these new glasses work. As I struggled to awkwardly make them respond to my commands, the Gen Y staff member used them with ease. Iím still unsure of their accounting applications, but itís amazing to think about the access to information and what the future holds.††

If you would like to check out these glasses and be a lab rat of sorts, shoot me an email. Iíll hook you up with my connection. Good things happen to those who love technology.

Not only cutting edge, but stylish to boot! You're just a few panels away from Lieutenant La Forge...
