VSCPA names outstanding member and top five under 35

The Virginia Society of CPAs announced the winners of the Outstanding Member of the Year and Top 5 Under 35 awards at its annual business meeting last week in Richmond, Va.

Elsie Rosa of Richmond firm Yount, Hyde & Barbour was named 2011 recipient for the Outstanding Member of the Year award, which recognizes a CPA member who “has provided outstanding service to the profession through participation in VSCPA activities, civic engagement and charitable activities that promote a positive image of accounting and the CPA profession.”

With 30 years experience in the profession, Rosa heads Yount, Hyde & Barbour’s investment advisors and asset managers team and was names a “Super CPA” by Virginia Business magazine in the governmental and nonprofit practice area.

Rosa also served as chair of the VSCPA Board of Directors and the VSCPA Educational Foundation Board of Directors and is a member of the AICPA council. She is also former president of the Rotary Club of Hanover, the Virginia Child Care Resource and Referral Network and Safe Harbor.

“I am thrilled to honor Elsie Rose for this prestigious award,” said Damon DeSue, CPA, chair of the VSCPA Board of Directors. “She has been a tremendous leader in the CPA profession and truly deserves recognition for her many valuable contributions.”

The Top 5 Under 35 honor is awarded to CPAs under the age of 35 that have made notable professional achievements, VSCPA accomplishments and/or contributions to the profession.

The 2011 recipients are:

•    April Gunn, director of data analysis at the Virginia Auditor of Public Accounts in Richmond where she manages Commonwealth Data Point, Virginia’s public database of financial and related information.

•    Marc Filer, senior associate at PricewaterhouseCoopers in McLean where he works on matters involving the SEC and the U.S. Department of Justice.

•    Holly Ratwani, tenured faculty member in the economics and business department at Bridgewater College in Bridgewater.

•    Jamie Wohlert, works at Navigant Consulting in Washington, D.C., providing services in forensic accounting investigations, expert witness testimony and consultation to prosecution and defense counsel in dispute matters.

•    Natalie Lentz, an assistant chief accountant with the Division of Enforcement of the United States Securities and Exchange Commission in Washington, D.C., specializing in the investigation of financial fraud and analysis of financial data.
