Becker Professional Education announced the recipients of its 2014 Newton D. Becker Scholarships, bestowed to students who meet requirements to sit for the CPA exam, demonstrate financial need and fulfill other criteria such a leadership and community service valued by the late Becker founder Newton D. Becker.

Now in its second year, the program awarded more than $275,000 in financial assistance, including 20 full CPA exam review scholarships and several partial scholarships.

The scholarship committee reviewed more than 725 applications before selecting the recipients.

“The quality of the applicants was impressive, making the selection process extremely difficult,” stated John Roselli, president of Becker Professional Education. “We continue to be inspired by these students and professionals level of dedication.”

The program was created in honor of Netwon D. Becker, who founded the organization in 1957 and introduced a new approach to preparing for the CPA exam, which he had initially struggled to pass. Becker passed away in 2012.

“As a Newton D. Becker Scholarship recipient, I am one giant step closer to accomplishing my goal of becoming a CPA,” stated 2014 scholarship recipient Kiera Griffiths. “I am thrilled to have the financial burden lifted and can't wait to sign up for Becker’s review course this May. Thank you to the scholarship board for allowing a program as important as this to continue to affect the lives of those of us with dreams we can't yet afford.”
