Citrin Cooperman gets FitBit to inspire healthy competition

Citrin Cooperman recently kicked off a new Fitbit competition to track and reward individuals’ steps through the digital fitness bracelet.

The bracelets were introduced at a partnership meeting this June after Citrin Cooperman managing partner Joel Cooperman brought the idea to the firm’s executive committee.

Designed to encourage movement and physical activity, more than 100 partners, principals and directors participated in the competition, which ended July 31. First, second and third place winners took home prizes of $3,000, $2,000 and $1,000, respectively and the other 22 winners grabbed $250 each.

“Our leadership stepped up to the challenge to get more healthy and succeeded,” Cooperman stated. “Our goal is to make wellness a priority within the firm, and by starting with our partners and directors, it demonstrates that commitment to the rest of our staff.”

The firm’s human resources director Melanie Villaruel was crowned winner, clocking 1,233,550 steps in total and averaging 39,792 a day. Coming in second was Gina Linss, a director in the firm’s White Plains office, who took 1,204,554 steps, averaging 38,097 a day. Michael Napolitano, a partner in the Livingston, NJ office, came in third with 1,090,893 steps with a 35,751 daily average.

“A hearty congratulations to everyone who participated,” stated Mark Fagan, managing partner of Citrin Cooperman’s Norwalk office. “I have received many positive emails from participants saying this event got them off the couch, helped them lose weight, and feel better. That’s what this is all about.”
