Mike McGuigan, shareholder of southeast accounting, tax and consulting firm Elliott Davis, was recently named a finalist for the United Way of Greenville County’s Young Philanthropists Mentor of the Year award.
McGuigan, leader of the firm’s tax practice and managing shareholder of the Greenville office, was nominated for the award, which recognizes trusted business and personal advisors to the United Way Young Philanthropists, by four Elliott Davis colleagues.
“He has shown us that giving our time, talent and resources not only serves those who need it most now, it also allows us to play a vital role in growing and shaping the place we call home into the community we want to see it become,” said firm manager Marshall Stein in a statement.
“I see the impact Mike makes on a daily basis,” stated managing shareholder Rick Davis. “He has influenced the lives of many throughout his career at Elliott Davis and it was terrific to see him honored for his longstanding commitment.”
Award finalists were judged on the impact made on their mentee’s professional life and community involvement, along with life lessons shared, the nature of the mentor-mentee relationship and their personal characteristics.
McGuigan is currently the president of the Greenville Literacy Association, after serving as both vice president and treasurer. He is also a member of the Advisory Board for the School of Accounting and Finance at Clemson University, and served on the boards of the Greenville Family Partnership, the YWCA Empowerment Committee, Greenville Children’s Theatre and the United Way Campaign Cabinet.
