CBM's '2nd Annual School Supplies Drive' sees 66% increase in donations

Councilor, Buchanan & Mitchell, P.C. (CBM), a full-service CPA and business advisory firm with offices in Bethesda, Maryland, and Washington, DC, announced on Wednesday that their 2nd Annual School Supplies Drive resulted in a 66 percent increase in donations over last year.

“In 2014, we held our first annual school supplies drive. Through the generous donations we received, CBM was able to donate 30 backpacks filled with all the school supplies the students needed to start the year prepared,” said Amy Stark, marketing manager for CBM, in a statement. “This year, our increased donations netted 50 stuffed backpacks plus an assortment of additional school supplies. Our goal each year is to surpass the previous year’s donations so we can help as many students as possible.”

This year, CBM partnered withRevereBank, which allowed CBM to offer three collection locations (at CBM’s offices in Bethesda, MD, and Washington, DC, and at RevereBank in Gaithersburg, MD), affording the firm the opportunity to collect even more donations from around the community.

“Through the donations and contributions from CBM and other donors, this year the Housing Opportunity Community Partners (HOCP) was able to serve over 500 youth,” stated Jonathan Cartagena, resident counselor III and HOC academy executive. “The school supplies and backpacks were distributed to students at HOC's Back to School Event. The contributions we receive allow the youth living in our affordable housing portfolio to start the school year well prepared. On behalf of The Housing Opportunities Commission of Montgomery County, I would like to thank the entire staff at CBM!”

Commission of Montgomery County, strives to help low-income families, living in Montgomery County’s
subsidized housing, to improve their quality of life, equip them to reach a higher level of self-sufficiency
and to provide them the resources needed to break out of the cycle of poverty.
