EY announces new Corporate Responsibility programs, releases 2015 Sustainability Report

EY announced on Friday new Corporate Responsibility Sabbatical programs, effective immediately, that will enable EY America's professionals to "strengthen global and local communities through longer volunteer placements where they can learn new business skills, team across borders, or even experience a new culture," per a statement.

As Friday also marks Earth Day, EY released its 2015 US Sustainability Report, titled “How do we all benefit from good citizenship?” which examines how EY seeks to balance its business goals with building a better working world for its professionals, clients and broader communities.

“Across the US, around the world and within EY, we hope to inspire change and demonstrate our understanding of our societal responsibility,” said Stephen Howe Jr., EY’s US chairman and Americas managing partner, in a statement. “Our commitment runs deep because of our desire to build a sustainable, inclusive economy with lasting benefits for everyone: our people, our clients, our communities and the broader marketplace.”

EY's new Corporate Responsibility Sabbatical programs include:

  • The EY Community Impact Program: 1-3 month program where professionals advise non-profits in their hometowns that support entrepreneurs, education and equity.
  • The EY Enterprise Growth Services (EGS): Previously available to EY professionals in Europe, the Middle East, Asia and India, the 3-6 month program will launch in the Americas. Teams will help social-impact entrepreneurs create jobs and improve health, education and access to energy in new markets.

“We are excited to expand our EY Corporate Responsibility Sabbatical programs,” stated Carolyn Slaski, EY Americas vice chair of talent. “We strive to give our people exceptional experiences while at EY. Challenging skills-based volunteering engages our people, helps them grow personally and professionally, and connects them to our purpose of building a better working world.”
The firm's 2015 US Sustainability Report also explores how the firm can build a better environment for its people, clients, and communities.

“Our US Sustainability Report helps us constantly learn and evaluate how our contributions and sustainability efforts help to foster a more prosperous and innovative future for all,” said Leisha John, EY Americas director of environmental sustainability, in a statement. “We’ve aligned our business objectives with our corporate citizenship goals to inspire our people and others to find new ways to build a better working world.”

The report was developed in accordance with GRI G4 (Core) Sustainability Reporting Guidelines, and specifically outlines the firm’s current carbon emission footprint and impact on the environment. The firm plans on publishing a statement later this year to reduce its US emissions by 12% by 2020, using a 2015 baseline.
