Sage to ship government-simulation financial software to students

Business management software-supplier Sage North America announced that a student edition of its Sage Fund Accounting nonprofit financial management software will ship with the new textbook Government and Not-For-Profit Accounting Concepts and Practices (5th edition). Published by John Wiley & Sons, Inc. and used or evaluated by dozens of colleges, the software enables users of the textbook to set up a fictional government and “enter and post summary transactions and prepare complete sets of fund and government-wide financial statements,” according to Sage.

“The world of not-for-profit and government accounting is becoming progressively more complex, due to increasing regulation and reporting requirements," said Michael H. Granof, Ernst & Young professor of accounting at The University of Texas at Austin and coauthor of the textbook, in a statement. “Accounting software specifically developed for this type of accounting can help reduce the burden.”

Government and Not-For-Profit Accounting Concepts and Practices is available through Wiley.com and some university bookstores.
