Be Careful with that Unexpected Tax Refund Check

A New Jersey man could be facing nearly a year in prison after he cashed a $158,174 refund check from the IRS that was supposed to go to his former employer.

Eric Friedman pleaded guilty to theft charges Wednesday after he was caught cashing a hefty check that was meant for his former company, according to the Asbury Park Press.

He had to repay the money in full and now could be facing a stiff jail sentence, even after striking a plea deal with prosecutors.
