Darrell Thaw has been appointed chairman of the Georgia Society of CPAs. … Taylor Trent has joined Draffin & Tucker LLP, Atlanta, as a staff accountant in the firm’s healthcare practice. … Sheldon Kay has returned to Sutherland Asbill & Brennan as a partner in the Tax Practice Group, effective September 1st. Previously, Kay was the Chief of Appeals at the Internal Revenue Service. Prior to joining the IRS Appeals Office in 2011, Kay served as a partner in Sutherlands tax practice since 2004.

Michael Capone has been named leader of the Grant Thornton LLP’s Distribution practice. He will be based in the firm’s Chicago office. SOUTH CAROLINA

The Indian Waters Council of the Boy Scouts of America held a dedication in July, to celebrate the opening of The Randy Scott Memorial Shooting Range at Camp Barstow, a camp located in the Midlands area of South Carolina and where Scouts enjoy summer on over 300 acres along the banks of Lake Murray.  The shooting range is named in honor of Randy Scott, founder of Scott and Company CPAs who was tragically killed in an automobile accident in January 2012.

TENNESSEE

Cheryl Farrar has been named chief information officer of The National Association of State Boards of Accountancy. Farrar previously acted as interim chief technology officer to NASBA preceding her full-time appointment.

Jeff Glenzer has been promoted to vice president and chief operating officer at the Association for Financial Professionals. Glenzer will be responsible for leading, developing and overseeing the execution of AFP content strategies in support of AFP's global mission. Glenzer will also oversee the execution of strategic initiatives while leading AFP's product development, educational programming, public policy and communication departments. Patrick Culkin was promoted to vice president, in the association’s Strategy and Human Resources department.
