SOUTH AFRICA

The International Federation of Accountants presented its International Gold Service Award to professor Mervyn King. King is a chairman of the King Committee on Corporate Governance in South Africa.

UNITED KINGDOM

Mary Tokar has been appointed by the Trustees of the IFRS Foundation to serve as a member of the IASB for an initial term ending 30 June 2017, renewable for a further three years. She will join the IASB in January 2013.

CALIFORNIA

Tran Dao, senior manager at CohnReznick, Woodland Hills, was highlighted in the San Fernando Valley Business Journal on its 40 Under 40 list.

GEORGIA

iLumen, an Atlanta-based customized business intelligence solutions provider which has McGladrey and BKD as its customers, tapped Rob Ganjon as CEO and David Kallery as chairman of the board. …Baileigh Casper has joined The Trinity Accounting Group, Athens, as a staff accountant. Christina Potter joined the firm as a human resources manager. …Robin Kelley, marketing director at Moore Colson, Atlanta, was presented with The Peak Award for his contributions to the firm. …Courtney Mishoe, of Brady Ware & Co., Alpharetta, passed her fourth and final section of the CPA exam.

ILLINOIS

Glenn Mikel, co-managing member at Weltman Bernfield LLC, Buffalo Grove, is the recipient of the 2012 Chicago Five Star Wealth Manager award.

MASSACHUSETTS

Robert Perry, a partner with Meyers Brothers Kalicka PC has received the 2012 Pynchon Award for distinguished civic service.

NEW JERSEY

Brett Robertson, a staff accountant at Smolin Lupin & Co., who also serves in the US Army Reserve National Guard, was called to duty to help with relief efforts from Hurricane Sandy. Robertson, who is Captain of Company A, 2nd Battalion, 113th Infantry, surveyed the damage of the storm in Manasquan, N.J. with his crew. A week following the storm, Robertson said the town was still without power and the National Guard was able to prevent many looting incidents.

“The community was just amazing, supporting each other, bringing around free food, water, and shelter,” Robertson shared in a statement. “The police and public really appreciate us. Now that we are here it allows the public to focus on their residences."

NEW YORK

Chastity Farrell, a student at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York, has been selected as the first recipient of the Friedman LLP Entrepreneurship Scholarship. …The AAA and the AICPA's Pathways Commission announced its recommendation leaders which includes: D. Scott Showalter, Jon S. Davis, Dana Hermanson, Terry Shevlin, Jan R. Williams, William W. Holder, Gail Hoover King, Jack E. Wilkerson Jr., Ellen J. Glazerman, Mikel G. Tiller, Jim Young, and Sanjay Gupta. …Deloitte & Touche LLP, New York, added David Vacca to its governance, regulatory and risk strategies practice where he will work as a senior advisor. Vacca will work with the firm's insurance clients as they prepare for the Own Risk and Solvency Assessment. …Michael Patanella will lead Grant Thornton LLPs national asset management sector. …Joel I. Reisman has joined Sanders Thaler Viola & Katz LLP, Jericho, as a director. He will be responsible for quality control and heading up the firm’s accounting and auditing department, where he will provide leadership and training in all aspects of accounting, auditing and client-related service issues to the firm’s staff. … Thomas VanHatten, a partner with Barone, Howard & Co., New Hartford, has been awarded the Certified in Financial Forensics Credential by the AICPA.

PENNSYLVANIA

Wm. Christopher Alger, has joined Alpern Rosenthal, Pittsburgh, as its newest shareholder. Alger was also named director of the firm's business advisory and risk services group.

TENNESSEE

Kathy Campbell has joined Lattimore Black Morgan & Cain PC, Knoxville, as an administrative assistant. Prior to LBMC, Campbell was an implementation manager in the telecommunications field. …The NASBA recently honored its annual awards recipients during its 105th Annual Meeting. Michael D. Weatherwax was presented with the 2012 William H. Van Rensselaer Public Service Award. The 2012 Distinguished Service Award was presented to Charles W. Taylor, Ph.D, Robert N. Brooks was named the 2012 recipient of the Lorraine P. Sachs Standard of Excellence Award.

WISCONSIN

Jay Adkisson, a partner in the health care practice of Wipfli LLP, Milwaukee, was recently appointed to the AICPAs Health Care Expert Panel for the 2012-2013 year.
