BRITSH COLUMBIA

Peter Millar, director of technology application at ACL Services Ltd, Vancouver, was recognized by The Institute of Internal Auditors for his best practices article Closing the Analytics Gap as a part of the 2012 Ted Keys Awards.

 

CHINA

Chris Devonshire-Ellis, founding partner of Dezan Shira & Associates, Beijing, is relocating from China to lead the firm’s practice in North America. The firm has yet to finalize plans on where Devonshire-Ellis will move to or when. 

 

ILLINOIS

Jeffrey Olin joined Alvarez & Marsal Taxand LLC, Chicago, as managing director. Prior to joining A&M Taxand, Olin was a tax executive at Fortune Brands. With more than 25 years of experience in the accounting profession, Olin also worked as a managing partner at Grant Thornton, McDermott, Will & Emery as well as Arthur Andersen. … Paul J. Laughlin joined WTAS LLC, Chicago, as a managing director in the Private Client Services Practice. Prior to joining WTAS, Laughlin was a partner at Deloitte Tax LLP for 10 years and before that he spent 24 years at Arthur Andersen. … Crowe Horwath LLP, Chicago, picked nine new partners and seven new directors to serve in its offices throughout the U.S. The new partners include, Stephen Bedell, Rebecca Hurt, John Kelleher, Bart Kimmel, Troy La Huis, Gary Lindsey, Dan Megathlin, Jeremy Nichols and Mike Varney. Directors include, Mike Cantrell, Jeff Goudie, Greg LeMond, Vicky Ludema, Brett Rosynek, David Strong and Jack Wolf. The firm also promoted several partners from its leadership team. Jim Dolinar, Gary Fox, Kevin Hovorka and Marc Shaffer were promoted to managing partner, while Craig Funkhouser was promoted to office managing partner in the Oak Brook office. The firm elected Tom Jones and Tony Klaich to serve on the executive committee. Ann Lathrop was promoted to chief marketing officer in the Indianapolis office and Gary Milligan to chief operating officer of audit, tax and office managing partner in the Grand Rapids office.

 

LOUISIANA

Jasmijn C. Bol, associate professor of accounting at the Freeman School of Business at Tulane University, New Orleans, was awarded the Best Early Career Research Award by the AICPA. Bol won a $2,000 grant for his research in management accounting.

 

MAINE

Richard Stevenson joined BerryDunn, Portland, as a senior proposal writer in the Management Information Technology Group. Prior to BerryDunn, Stevenson worked at Measured Progress, Inc., in Dover, New Hampshire. The firm also hired Joshua Clark as a consultant to serve in the Management Information Technology Group.

 

MARYLAND

Trevor Williams, senior nonprofit audit manager at Gelman, Rosenberg and Freedman, Bethesda, joined the board of the Maryland, Washington D.C. and Virginia chapter of the Lupus Foundation.

 

MASSACHUSETTS

Charlotte Cathro joined Meyers Brothers Kalicka PC, Holyoke, as tax manager in the firm’s tax division.

 

MICHIGAN

Plante Moran PLLC, Southfield, appointed eight new partners throughout the firm including Robert Bondy, William Brickey, Nathan Buchalski, Mark D. Corombos, Matthew S. Denman, Scott Eiler, Christopher Goodwin and Matt Wescott. Lucy Marshall has been promoted to forensic accountant in UHY Advisors, Farmington Hills, Forensic, Litigation and Valuation Services Group. … Kami Dean joined Lewis & Knopf  PC, Flint, as a junior staff accountant.

 

MINNESOTA

Rod Axtell moved over to Eide Bailly LLP, Minneapolis, from Cost Seg Associates to serve as a partner. Cost Seg’s Robert Lehmann, Kris Peacock, Travis Mlodzik and Joe Sawatske also joined the Eide Bailly team.

 

MISSOURI

Nathan Woodall joined Brown Smith Wallace LLC, St. Louis, as director and Andre Barake joined as staff associate in the firm’s Financial Advisory Services practice. Woodall will serve the firm’s financial advisory services clients and Barake will assist valuation, litigation support and will work on M&A advisory engagements. Prior to joining Brown Smith Wallace, Woodall worked as senior manager of economic and valuation services at KPMG LLP in Chicago, while Barake was wrapping up his corporate financial analysis internship at Commerce Bank. … Chad Allen and Kyle McGuire, of Marks Nelson Vohland Campbell Radetic LLC, Kansas City, were promoted to managers.  

 

 

NEW HAMPSHIRE

Angela Zakon was promoted to supervisor at Leone, McDonnell & Roberts PA, Wolfeboro.  Jason Gaskell and Christopher McKay were promoted to senior accountants, while Isaiah Warren was promoted to an in-charge accountant.

 

NEW JERSEY

Doreen Remmen was promoted to senior vice president, operations and chief financial officer at the Institute of Management Accountants, Montvale. Steven A. Weiss was promoted to senior vice president, global membership, marketing and business development, while Dennis Whitney was promoted to senior vice president, certifications, exams and content integration in the associations division, Institute of Certified Management Accountants. … Marc Silverman joins WithumSmith+Brown PC, Morristown, as a partner. He has more than 22 years of experience serving mid-market private companies within the business services, manufacturing and life sciences sectors. Prior to WS+B, Silverman ran his own boutique firm, MH Silverman & Associates, where he provided assurance services to high net worth clients.

Jeremy Swan has joined J.H. Cohn LLP, New York, as a principal in Cohn Consulting Group, a division of the firm. Swan will help the firm to enhance its consulting services and transaction due diligence efforts through the Private Equity/Venture Capital Industry Practice. … Russ Rudish has been tapped to lead Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu Limited’s Global Health Care Sector Group in New York. Rudish is currently the head of Deloitte’s health care providers group and will continue in that role. … Jeffrey Gluck, managing director at CBIZ, has been tapped to lead the CBIZ MHM LLC, New York, Accounting Services Group. … Kevin Leifer joined Gettry Marcus Stern & Lehrer PC, New York, as a director in its Tax & Real Estate Groups. Leifer has more than 35 years of experience in the accounting profession and specializes in the taxation of partnerships and the tax planning for real estate companies. Prior to GMSL, Leifer worked at Ernst & Young LLP for 29 years. He is also an adjunct professor at Long Island University. Federico Tovar also joined the firm as director and he will serve in the Business Valuation & Litigation Support Group. Prior to GMSL, Tovar worked at Grant Thornton as a senior manager where he provided business valuation and strategic advisory services to corporate clients and private equity sponsors. The firm also hired Christina K. Yaccarino as a senior manager to serve in the BV&L Group. Prior to GMSL, Yaccarino worked at a number of accounting firms, including Ernst & Young LLP. … Stanley R. Perla joined Friedman LLP, New York, where he will assist clients in the firm’s Real Estate Group. Perla has more than 45 years of real estate accounting and auditing experience, and worked with both public and private companies. Prior to Friedman, Perla worked at Ernst & Young LLP for 35 years. …Gerald Archibald, founding partner of The Bonadio Group, was presented with the Community Partner Award from The Council of Agency Executives, Rochester.
