As part of the deal, 15 former Watson McDonell team members will join CLA, expanding its Washington team to more than 340 professionals.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. CLA ranked No. 8 on Accounting Today’s 2018 list of the Top 100 Firms, with $865 million in annual revenue.

Watson McDonell has been offering audit and tax services for more than 30 years to small and midsized businesses, and individuals, with a focus on nonprofit organizations and affordable housing.

Among those joining CLA is Watson McDonell managing partner Lillian McDonell. “Building solid relationships is foundational to how we work,” she stated. “Opportunities grow from the commitment we make to know our clients in order to help them get where they want to go. Joining CLA enables us to expand the ways we can help our clients now and into the future.”

CLA did a number of mergers last year, including with Top 100 Firm Schenck SC in Appleton, Wisconsin; with MWA CPA + Business Advisors in Plano, Texas, in November; with Darton Group Consulting in Charlotte, North Carolina, and Duggan & Massey in Atlanta in July; with Laffer & Gottlieb in Beverly Hills in May; and with NSBN in Los Angeles at the beginning of last year.

“We exist to create opportunities for our clients, our people, and our communities,” said CLA Seattle managing principal Paul Bailey in a statement. “Welcoming Lillian and the experienced Watson McDonell team enables us to deepen that promise. In particular, it expands our nonprofit and low-income housing industries — two key industries that we have been focused on and looking to expand throughout Puget Sound. This truly is an incredible opportunity for everyone."
