EY names Bill.com founder René Lacerte Entrepreneur of the Year

EY has named René Lacerte, founder of payments technology company Bill.com, entrepreneur of the year in financial services in Northern California.

Lacerte has more than two decades of experience in the financial technology industry. He started his career with PwC in 1989 before joining CertiData, his parents’ payroll company, as VP of operations and development. He then joined Intuit in 1994 to serve as product manager. It was after this experience that Lacerte founded and launched PayCycle in 1999, an online payroll solution often touted as America’s first. After amassing 100,000 users, the company was bought by Intuit in 2009. In 2006, Lacerte founded Bill.com, and remains the company’s CEO today.

Bill.com is the preferred payments solution of CPA.com, the technology arm of the American Institute of CPAs.

“It’s a real pleasure to work with the people at Bill.com, and I’m honored that our hard work is being recognized by some of the most successful entrepreneurs and executives in Silicon Valley,” Lacerte said in a statement. “Having grown up in a family of entrepreneurs, this award means a lot to me and is a personal tribute to multiple generations.”

The Entrepreneur Of The Year awards were founded by EY to encourage entrepreneurial activity, as well as to recognize the contribution of people who inspire others with their vision, leadership and achievement in business.
