Greg Burke has been elected president of the CalCPA Education Foundation for 2015-16 at the annual meeting of the CalCPA Council at the Park Central Hotel. Burke previously served as Foundation treasurer. …. Jason Maynard has been appointed to executive vice president of NetSuite Inc’s Strategy and Corporate Development. Maynard will be charged with overall strategy and plans for new partnerships and new markets as he helps to lead NetSuite in its next stage of growth. … Jennifer Ziegler was elected as president of California Society of CPAs.

EUROPE

Stephen Hamlet been tapped as the chief executive officer at the global association of independent accountancy business advisory firms, IAPA. Stephen joins IAPA after six years with BKR International as Regional Executive Director for Europe, the Middle East and Africa. He replaces Susan Humphry, who retires after 11 years in post. … Paul Raleigh will serve as the Grant Thornton global leader for growth and advisory services. Raleigh, who has been a member of the Grant Thornton global leadership team since 2012, has most recently served as global leader for strategic development and growth, and as regional leader for Europe.

FLORIDA

The Institute of Internal Auditors appointed William Michalisin as executive vice president and chief officer for North American Operations. Michalisin, most recently IIA Chief Marketing Officer and Executive Director of The IIA Research Foundation, will oversee core services offered to IIA members throughout North America.

GEORGIA

PwC US admitted five professionals in the Greater Atlanta market into partnership. Brian Kaplan was admitted as an Advisory principal focusing on clients in the Entertainment, Media, and Communications industry. Since joining PwC in 2001, Kaplan has led transformational initiatives involving strategy, operating model design, technology enablement, process redesign, and performance improvement. Kaplan received his Bachelor of Business Administration in finance and his master's degree in decision information sciences from the University of Florida. Munawar Lakdawala was admitted as an Advisory principal. In his role, he will continue to be responsible for leading Digital Solution and Application Strategy & Integration (AS&I) initiatives in the Greater Atlanta market. Lakdawala joined PwC in 2009 and has served a variety of clients across utilities, industrial products, oil and gas and entertainment media and communications, amongst others. Lakdawala is a graduate of the University of Mumbai where he received both his bachelor's degree and his Master of Business Administration. Gaurang Patel was admitted as an Advisory principal focusing on business and technology transformation. Patel brings 14 years of experience in data center technologies, infrastructure planning and execution, and enterprise level IT transformation, serving clients across a variety of industries including high tech and health industries. Patel received his bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology. Dave Stainback was admitted as an Advisory principal in the Forensic Services practice where he will continue to lead clients through high stakes crisis situations stemming from complex regulatory investigation, litigation, cybercrime and data breach response, and other urgent risk issues. Stainback joined PwC in 2001 and has spent 13 years serving clients across various industries during both regulatory and internal investigations related to financial and economic crime. Stainback received a Bachelor's degree in economics from Princeton University and an MBA from Duke University's Fuqua School of Business. He is a Certified Fraud Examiner and a Certified Information Privacy Professional. Erin Weis was admitted as an Assurance partner focused on the Retail and Consumer Products industry. She brings over 13 years of experience assisting multinational public and private companies with complex accounting issues such as leases, impairments, business combinations, IPO-related issues, variable interest entities and stock-based compensation. Weis received her Bachelor of Business Administration in accounting from Purdue University. She is a Certified Public Accountant licensed in the states of Georgia, Illinois, and Ohio.

ILLINOIS

Tanya Walter and Joshua Gibson have joined Ostrow Reisin Berk & Abrams’ audit department and the accounting services department, respectively.

MARYLAND

Zachary Hylton has joined DeLeon & Stang as a staff accountant in the tax department with a focus on the preparation of individual and business tax returns. Prior to joining the firm fulltime, Hylton interned in the tax department. Hylton graduated from Towson University with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting

MISSOURI

Stephanie Doty has joined HOK as an accountant in St. Louis. She will work with the firm’s corporate accounting team to maintain accurate and timely accounting records. Doty joins HOK from Bryan Cave LLP, where she was a staff accountant. She received her bachelor’s degree in business administration from the Southern Illinois University Edwardsville in 2010.

NEW JERSEY

Walter Brasch, of Little Silver, N.J., has been elected president-elect of the New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants for a one-year term beginning June 1, 2015. Brasch, Partner & Chief Business Development Officer at O'Connor Davies, LLP, Cranford, joined the New Jersey Society of CPAs in 1977. He has served on the NJCPA Board of Trustees as a trustee, treasurer and secretary. He is a member of the NJCPA Finance, Strategic Planning, and Retirement Savings Plan committees and is an Education Foundation trustee. He has served on the Health Care, Litigation Services and Accounting & Auditing interest groups and was chair of the NJ-CPA-PAC. He has also served as president, vice president, secretary and director of the Monmouth/Ocean Chapter. … Scott Barron has been elected to partner at Bowman & Company LLP. Robert Burns, former deputy director of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation's complex financial institutions group, has joined Deloitte Advisory as a director. He will work in the firm’s banking and securities regulatory offering helping U.S. and international banking clients on their resolution planning, capital stress testing, liquidity coverage, regulatory reporting and credit risk management efforts. A 25-year veteran of the financial regulator, Burns was most recently the senior executive responsible for risk analysis and supervisory programs of systemically important financial institutions. In that role, he was at the forefront of the FDIC's efforts to review all SIFI resolution plans (better known informally as "living wills") and led the subsequent efforts with banks to "make significant progress" to address the gaps seen by regulators. … Westcor Land Title Insurance Company has engaged McGladrey LLP, a CPA firm and leading provider of assurance, tax and consulting, to assist with evaluation and enhancement of Westcor’s new Agency Internal Audit Program for the benefit of lenders and consumers. … PwC US’ Jennifer Mantini and Adam Rosen were named among The M&A Advisor’s 40 under 40 Emerging Leaders for 2015.
