ADP Offers Mobile Screening for Work Opportunity Tax Credit

ADP has added new capabilities to help employers determine a potential job candidate’s eligibility for the Work Opportunity Tax Credit using a mobile device such as a smartphone or tablet.

Job applicants in virtually any location, such as a job fair, can enter information on a mobile device, and employers will be alerted on the spot of the candidate’s eligibility for the WOTC, or if additional documentation is required to complete the application.

The Work Opportunity Tax Credit is a federal tax credit that is available to employers for hiring individuals from certain target groups who have consistently faced significant barriers to employment. These include veterans, the disabled, residents of Rural Renewal Communities and Empowerment Zones, ex-felons and recipients of food stamps and Temporary Assistance to Needy Families, Supplemental Security Income recipients and summer youth employees.

Mobile screening is the latest addition to the ADP Tax Credits offering, which is a component of the ADP SmartCompliance cloud-based system. It allows businesses to screen for WOTC eligibility from any location to speed up the overall credit capture process.

ADP noted that companies of all sizes often expend significant time and resources screening job applicants and verifying and documenting employees for the WOTC and other point-of-hire credits. When companies are conducting mass-hiring, such as at job fairs or during store openings, they often need to rely on paper applications and manual processes to fill out and submit WOTC applications to states.

ADP’s new mobile tax credit screening promises to help companies speed up the process of determining eligibility and submitting applications for the WOTC and other tax credits by making the application process available electronically virtually anywhere.

“We often hear from our clients that on-the-go WOTC screening is a significant challenge,” said Jeanne Madden, vice president of operations for ADP Tax Credits, in a statement. “When they’re in a location without Internet access, employers often use a slower, manual screening method or choose not to screen all potential candidates. By making the process accessible anywhere with an Internet connection, ADP is helping companies screen the maximum number of employees to help improve the efficiency and value of their WOTC screening process.”

ADP plans to add extra features to the mobile tax credit screening offering in the future, including the ability for hiring managers to enter the necessary information to complete the WOTC application process after an employee is hired, along with the ability for job applicants to take photos of any required supporting documentation and upload it to ADP, all from a mobile device.
