The Board of Trustees of the Financial Accounting Foundation appointed California State Treasurer Fiona Ma to the Governmental Accounting Standards Advisory Council. Her initial term will conclude Dec. 31, 2020.

DELAWARE

Belfint, Lyons & Shuman, Wilmington, was named one of the 2019 Top Workplaces by the News Journal for the 11th straight year. The program recognizes Delaware organizations based solely on anonymous workplace surveys of employees. This year, 60 companies made the list. As in past years, the firm celebrated the honor with an ice cream party, catered by The Moo Mobile, for BLS and the entire Delle Donne Corporate Center.

FLORIDA

Fulcrum Partners, Ponte Vedra Beach, made donations to two Jacksonville-based nonprofits: 5 Star Veterans Center, an agency that assists veterans in need, and Daniel Kids, an organization that serves children in need and at-risk teens.

MARYLAND

The Maryland Association of CPAs, Towson, and the Montana Society of CPAs have partnered with leaders from a number of other state societies and organizations to host an online conversation about the CPA profession, CPA Convene, on Oct. 3. The virtual conference will be a venue for CPAs to discuss the most pressing issues for the future of the profession.

MASSACHUSETTS

The Massachusetts Society of CPAs, Boston, announced the 2019 honorees of their Women to Watch Awards, recognizing women who have made outstanding contributions to the accounting profession, their community, and workplace. (Read the full story.)

Blumshapiro, Newton, received a Silver Award in the 2019 Wicked Local Readers Choice Awards for the Regional Favorites in the Accountant category, and received a first place award for Newton in the Accountant category and an honorable mention for Quincy. The readers choice awards, in their 24th year, are compiled by Wicked Local Media Solutions based on readers’ votes on their favorite places, services, and things to do in their communities.

THE NETHERLANDS

Taxture, Amsterdam, has entered a collaboration agreement with Andersen Global to become a member firm of the international association.

NEW YORK

The New York State Society of CPAs announced that 76 New York State students will be receiving the Excellence in Accounting Scholarships through the Moynihan Scholarship Fund for the 2019-20 school year. The scholarships, totalling $165,000, were presented in amounts of $2,500, $1,250, $1,000 and $500. (Read the full story.)

UNITED KINGDOM

HLB formed a strategic partnership with Inflo, a supplier of accounting data analytics, to help HLB member firms enhance their offerings.

VIRGINIA

The Virginia Society of CPAs, Richmond, joined the CEO Action for Diversity & Inclusion, with VSCPA president and CEO Stephanie Peters joining more than 750 other CEOs in signing the pledge. (Read the full story. )

WASHINGTON

EY, in collaboration with Girls Who Code, hosted a graduation celebration for Seattle-based Summer Immersion Program, during which young women, high school juniors and seniors, learn a range of technology skills like mobile app development, robotics and web design. This year’s program welcomed 40 girls to workshops in Miami and Seattle.
