The California Society of CPAs presented awards to three individuals and a Sacramento accounting firm in recognition of their services to the profession or the public. Gilbert Associates, Sacramento, received this year’s CalCPA 2017 Firm Public Service Award from the California Society of CPAs for their extraordinary community and public services in the Sacramento region and extensive volunteer efforts of its staff. Additionally, William Harrison of Harrison Accounting Group received the Society's Public Service Award for his work with nonprofits and his local community to increase affordable housing in southern Alameda County. Donald Driftmier of Ontario was given the Distinguished Service Award for his range of activities and leadership positions held in the organization since 1971. Nancy Mangold, professor and chair of the department of accounting and finance at California State University, East Bay, was honored with the Outstanding Educator Award. (Read the full story.)
The Indiana CPA Society earned a 2017 ASAE "Power of A" Silver Award from the American Society of Association Executives for its INCPAS Scholars Program, a year-long mentorship and career awareness program for high potential, minority high school students with an interest in accounting/business in the Indianapolis and South Bend areas.
Rodman CPAs is hosting its second Solar Roundtable on Sept. 19, 2017, at its Waltham office at 51 Sawyer Road, Suite 610. The second in a three-part series, the roundtable is geared toward sharing best practices in the industry and will cover legal, banking, investor and tax issues. Walthall CPAs, Cleveland, received the 2017 Business Longevity Award from Power Players of Cleveland, in recognition for demonstrated ability to adapt and evolve, in the more than 50 years category. The firm was formed in 1944. The award was presented to 46 Cleveland-area companies with 50 or more years of business at the Power Players of Cleveland quarterly luncheon on August 3.
Baker Tilly Virchow Krause, Philadelphia, is hosting its second annual Hot Topics Seminar September 20 at the Clarion Hotel in Exton. The day-long seminar provides accounting, tax, risk management and regulatory updates and best practices for insurance companies in partnership with law firm Stradley Ronon, dental support organization Mid-Atlantic Dental Partners and Baker Tilly subsidiary Baker Tilly Vantagen.
