Bernadette Pieters was appointed as the first chief diversity, equity and inclusion officer at BDO USA, Chicago, where she has worked since 1999, been partner since 2017 as a human resources principal, and will now oversee and help drive forward the firm’s DEI strategy.

Grant Thornton, Chicago, announced two new employee benefits: four-day weekends for all three of its summer holidays (Memorial Day, Independence Day and Labor Day); and half-day Fridays, with the firm closing every Friday at 1 p.m. local time between Memorial Day and Labor Day (June 3 - Aug. 26).

Bowman & Co., Voorhees, awarded its Lisa A. Donahue Scholarship, sponsored by the firm through the New Jersey Society of CPAs and honoring late Bowman partner Lisa Donahue, who died fourteen years ago after a battle with cancer. This year’s recipient is Melissa Palladino, who is pursuing a bachelor of science in accounting and minor in business analytics at Rider University, on track to graduate May 2022.

Marcelo Bartholo was named US-East region vice chair at Ernst & Young, where he has worked more than 20 years and will join the EY US executive committee and EY Americas operating executive and succeed Richard Jeanneret, who after a 39 year-career, will retire from the firm in June 2022.

Jackie Cottrell, the director of the Office of External Affairs at the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board, will be departing the PCAOB April 21 to take a new role at the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation.
