Accountests, a provider of competency tests for accounting firms, released tax-specific tests that can identify the knowledge level and skills of a candidate at different levels, from tax associate to tax manager. The tests are online with instant reporting of the results. The tests cover various tax issues using real situations to see if candidates can use their technical knowledge to help clients. The tests are based on the situations they will face in practice, and the types of real questions clients might ask, rather than textbook questions, everything from itemized deductions, capital gains and basis to the tax treatment of rental investments. The initial tests distinguish individual tax from business tax. Accountests plans to develop future in-depth modules so tax firms can choose tests based on their specific client base, such as real estate investors or service-based businesses.
